Uganda Editors Guild Launches Medical and Personal Insurance Scheme for Journalists
The Uganda Editors Guild (UEG) has launched a medical and personal insurance scheme for journalists across Uganda, marking a significant milestone in efforts to safeguard the welfare of media practitioners.
This initiative is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of journalists working in challenging environments, providing coverage for medical needs and protection of essential equipment. By addressing these critical areas, the scheme aims to reduce the risks faced by journalists and enable them to carry out their duties with greater confidence and security.
The Guild point up that the scheme reflects its commitment to strengthening press freedom and supporting journalists in their important role of informing the public. The insurance package, developed in partnership with Liberty Insurance, will cover health, equipment, and funeral support.
The Editors Guild noted that this initiative comes at a time when journalists continue to face harassment, intimidation, and financial insecurity. By offering tangible support, the Guild hopes to set a precedent for broader efforts to protect and empower media professionals in Uganda.
