FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
World Press Freedom Day Commemoration
On 3rd May, the world will commemorate World Press Freedom Day in Lusaka under the theme “Shaping a Future at Peace.”
In solidarity with this global observance, the Uganda Editors Guild has released a Joint Editorial to reaffirm the indispensable role of journalists in promoting democracy, strengthening accountability, and advancing peace in society. The editorial will be published across media houses in Uganda as a unified message underscoring the value of press freedom in building a just, informed, and peaceful nation.
The Uganda Editors Guild calls upon all stakeholders, including government, civil society, and the public, to recognise and protect the freedom of the press as a cornerstone of democratic governance and sustainable development. A free and independent media remains essential in ensuring transparency, amplifying diverse voices, and holding power to account.
