UEG Calls on Experienced Editors to Join its Mentors Programme

The Uganda Editors Guild (UEG) is inviting experienced editors and newsroom leaders to enroll as mentors in its Editors’ Mentorship Programme. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the next generation of ethical, confident and capable editors.

The mentorship programme provides an opportunity for experienced editors to support colleagues who are growing into editorial leadership and management roles.

Mentors will have an opportunity to share practical lessons from their careers, offer guidance on navigating newsroom challenges, and help emerging editors develop the confidence, judgement and leadership skills needed in today’s changing media environment.

For UEG, mentorship is also about strengthening the profession from within — creating opportunities for experienced editors to contribute to the development of the next generation while building a stronger community of editors.

Why become a mentor?

The media landscape is changing rapidly. Editors are navigating new technologies, changing audience habits, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, newsroom pressures and evolving expectations around journalism ethics and standards.

In this environment, experience remains an important resource.

Through the programme, mentors will help emerging editors reflect on real newsroom experiences, understand the responsibilities that come with editorial leadership and develop practical approaches to challenges they encounter in their work.

More importantly, mentorship creates a space for editors to learn from one another and strengthen professional networks across Uganda’s media industry.

Who can enrol?

The programme is open to UEG members with relevant editorial and newsroom experience who are willing to guide and support a younger or emerging editor.

If you have built your career in the newsroom and believe your experience can help another editor grow, the Guild would like to hear from you.
