Uganda Editors’ Guild Condemns Escalating Media Crackdown

Posted on October 30, 2025

KAMPALA, Uganda – The Uganda Editors’ Guild is sounding the alarm over escalating attacks on press freedom, citing a pattern of state intimidation ahead of elections.

In a Wednesday statement, the guild detailed incidents including the arbitrary ban of a major media group from covering the president and parliament, intimidation of journalists by security agents, and a suspicious break-in at a newspaper’s office.

The Guild demands authorities cease restrictions, ensure journalist safety and investigate attacks, warning that these actions threaten Uganda’s democratic integrity.
